 Mourning’s Decade (2005-2015)

For Maureen

No love was there when she killed her heart,

No love could cry when her eyes went blind.

No love was witness as thus she did depart.

I left my heart swing

Upon that Irish tree,

That I shan’t ever will see,

For frosty fire did give it wing.

Her thoughtful blossoms

That fell on upon my brow,

And gave scent to my heart

From her ever graceful bough.

Her blossoms failed to seed

Like sad stillborn smiles.

Only teardrops did she feed,

To nourish her miles of trails.

Yet still it shades my mind

Did first her heart be-cold?

Did love cease to grow?

For she chose the undefined.

No love was there when she killed her heart,

No love could cry when her eyes went blind,

No love was witness as thus she did depart.

Cruel minx of mind and beauty

You wound thy lovers you left,

Their hearts on faithful duty,

Still bereft and wounded yet.

A decade of cold eternity

Has spread her blossoms free,

A gift to nurture life,

As life from her did flee.

Is there a world apart

Where yet your blossoms be?

And smiles grow in all hearts

I hope we can all see.

Vainglorious hope!

A flaw cemented in my eye

Thy imperfections that were thee,

In beauty shall always be.

No love was there when she killed her heart,

No love could cry when her eyes went blind,

No love was witness as thus she did depart.
